A declared carbon footprint has to be verified
You have entered a carbon footprint. Under Article 7 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 this is not a self-declared number: it comes from a product carbon footprint study for that battery model, from that manufacturing plant, calculated under the Commission's delegated methodology and expressed in kg CO₂e per kWh — and the study must be independently verified by a notified body before the battery is placed on the EU market.
The obligation is phased by battery type, with electric vehicle batteries first and light means of transport batteries later. If your figure has not been through that verification, treat what this tool produces as a draft rather than a declaration.

Which products legally need a passport, and when?
Today, only batteries. Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 makes a Digital Product Passport mandatory from 18 February 2027 for EV batteries, LMT batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh — portable batteries are excluded. The ESPR (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781) is intended to extend passports to other sectors, but no delegated act creating an obligation for any other product group has been adopted yet. A textiles act is planned around 2027; electronics and furniture sit later in the Commission's indicative planning with no legal dates.
How long must the documentation be kept?
Ten years after the battery is placed on the market. Economic operators must keep the EU declaration of conformity and the technical documentation available to national authorities for that period — the same ten-year window that applies across CE-marked products. The passport itself is a separate obligation from that retention duty: this tool structures the passport, it does not build or store your technical file.
Is what this tool generates an official passport?
No — and nothing generated by any online tool today is. This produces a seller-declared passport document structured to the categories of Annex XIII: a single self-contained web page with your product's identification, materials, recycled content, carbon footprint and end-of-life information, plus a QR code and embedded JSON-LD so the data is machine-readable. You host it at a URL you control. The regulation's registration and conformity requirements are separate obligations that arrive with the 2027 deadline.
Why start before the deadline?
Because the data collection is the slow part, not the document. Manufacturers need material compositions, recycled-content shares and carbon footprints from their suppliers, and buyers — particularly larger retail and industrial customers — are already asking for passport-style documentation ahead of the deadline. Producing a structured passport now costs nothing and puts the supplier conversations on rails.
